We deliver resources, education, and support to drive change and most of all, get real, sustainable results!
A Nonprofit Developed For Women
to Empower More Women
The Barbara Jean Foundation is a nonprofit “for women by women”. We are entrepreneurs, business professionals, and community leaders. The practices we teach are proven, integrated, and evidence-based approaches. Our team has been through it all - the ups and downs, striving for success and often times meeting failure. We have learned to persevere, commit to continuous improvement, and to set attainable goals. With a group of women coaching, mentoring, and advising you, there are no limitations to what you can achieve or aspire to.
10-Week Evidence-Based Program
Our goal is to help women and girls reach their fullest potential. Through “The G.L.A.M. Project”, a specialized program targeting two groups: teenage girls and women, we prepare women to achieve a new career path or employment skills, gain entrepreneurial skills, credit and financial literacy, health and wellness, and professional development skills to boost their resume and chances for increased economic independence.
Support Services
Employment Training
& Career Prep
We help prepare women for successful careers. Whether you are interested in gaining new skills, creating or building your resume, support to prepare for an interview, business clothing, and job leads, we are here to help. Through our referral network, we also help job ready candidates find viable employment options.
Homeownership
Education & Counseling
BJF teaches women and girls the path to homeownership and independence. From budgeting to managing your credit to learning how to apply for and qualify for financing, we empower you on the home buying process. We prepare women to grow, thrive, and position themselves for independence and stability.
Credit Building
& Financial Literacy
Financial independence is the key to success! Through our programming and workshops, we help women manage their money with confidence and we empower them to make reasonable financial decisions. Becoming independent will open doors that have been closed and will lead you to new horizons.
Narcrissa Berry, Founder & President
“BJF isn’t just another nonprofit, it’s a lifestyle. We understand the challenges of building a career and/or supporting a family. It’s harder to get ahead when you are being held back. We help you get the resources you need to give you that competitive edge to achieve success.”

Why choose our program? How we support success?
We target women and girls in economically disadvantaged areas, victims of gun and domestic violence, communities at or near the poverty line, and historically underserved communities. Currently, we focus our efforts on Chicago’s West Side, particularly, the Austin, Garfield Park, and Lawndale communities. We know there’s untapped potential in these areas and it is our mission and goal to develop this potential. Choose us because we care, have been there, and we are proven to make a difference.
